Cal-Mum Wrestling Coach Honored
BOCES awards prestigious Champion of Education to Chip Day

It has never been totally about winning with Red Raider varsity wrestling coach, Chip Day. It is about the opportunity to work with young athletes, to get them better at all of the sports that he loves and more so, about his teaching theses individuals to be become a better person, a better citizen. From his working with the peewee-wrestling program and Vince Lombardi football, to assisting with the modified football program and mentoring the high school members on the Cal-Mum Varsity Wrestling program, Chip Day has left a most positive imprint on the young people of our community. The Genesee Valley BOCES Strategic Planning Initiative through their Champion of Education Award has now recognized Coach Day for his efforts.

Coach Day received his award at the annual wrestling banquet sponsored by the Cal-Mum Wrestling Booster Club and held at the Springbrook Inn. Marilyn Gross, Principal at the Genesee Valley BOCES and a Strategic Planning member was on hand to present the Champion of Education award to Coach Day.

Coach Day, followed the acceptance of his award with his recognition of this year’s wrestlers. In a humorous analogy of his wrestling program to the 60’s sitcom Leave it to Beaver, Coach Day, as always, spoke positive about each wrestler as he called them forward to accept their varsity letters and awards. This year’s award winners include: Riley Ottman - Most Improved Wrestler, Coaches’ Award – Nikko Fenderson, Jon Grann – Red Raider and the Ross Orton Award.
