Village board in low gear for summer months The Caledonia Village Board of Trustees met on July 3 at 4 p.m. with a relatively short agenda of summer business items. A Main Street business owner will bring a variance request before the Village Zoning Board of Appeals on July 18 pertaining to an off street parking area. ZBA member Ron Grant has been appointed to serve as temporary chair because the request involved is a neighboring property to the home of the current ZBA chair, Allen Roggen of Main Street, Caledonia. According to the village’s attorney, James Conigio, Mr. Roggen can be in attendance at the zoning board of appeals meeting to hear the variance request, but can not be involved in any official capacity, because his property borders the property named in the variance request. Village Justice Mark Riggi notified the village board that the village court has reviewed its books and they are in order for the annual State of N.Y. Unified Court System mandatory audit. The Village board discussed complaints about the zoning code noncompliance of three village properties. A private home on Main Street, once condemned, has a new owner but a neighbor of the property complained that the property is in serious disrepair and is not compliant with current zoning code regulations. The village board discussed the situation and said they will contact the new mortgage holder to inform them that the property must be maintained according to current village code. Another property located on Lehigh Street in the village was discussed in regards to noncompliance with the zoning code. Mayor Caluorie said the zoning code enforcer is working with the property owner to have the property cleaned up. The village board also mentioned a rental property on North Street with which there have been concerns from residents about the zoning codes regarding trash pile ups at the curb and parking of motor vehicles on the front lawn. The zoning code enforcement officer will follow up on these property complaints. The village board expects the trash and recycle contract to increase significantly when it renews next summer. There are concerns about refuse pick up from both the contractor and village customers. The board hopes to receive bids for the trash and recycle contract from several different companies. The next meeting of the village board is Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 4 p.m.
