CPD down one plus tackling drainage problems

   Department reports headlined the agenda of the Caledonia Village Board meeting held June 3 in the village building.

   First up, Code Enforcement Officer Tom Perkins who reported on a complaint regarding a village property housing a horse. Perkins told the board that he notified the property owner of the code violation and was awaiting a response.

   DPW supervisor Chris Buckley talked about the joint project with the Town of Caledonia DPW to install proper drainage pipes on the north side of West Main Street in an effort to reduce flooding of private property and basements. The DPW will also address drainage problems on East Avenue over the summer months.

   Buckley and the board discussed that the final meter read would be in September before the village discontinues use of the wells and begins pumping Monroe County water to its customers. The village air stripper, used for the last two decades in the water purification system, will no longer be needed and will be dismantled as a result of the switch to Monroe County water.

   Officer in Charge David Richardson announced the resignation of one of the PD’s full time officers, Chris Beach, who accepted a position with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. After a lengthy board discussion, a resolution was accepted to hire one part time police officer to replace Beach bringing the total number of officers in the police department to one full time (OIC Richardson) and three part time officers. The board plans to discuss the make up of the police department at a future meeting.

   Mayor Joe Caluorie announced to the board that Barry Ganzhorn, Sr. has been appointed as a temporary member of the zoning board of appeals in the matter of a Main Street parking area.

   The board gave a food vendor permission to set up and sell chicken dinners from a portable location two Sundays each month through the summer. The vendor will be located at the Caledonia Commons parking lot.

   The board reviewed the policy for the community sign located in Caledonia Commons, which states that not-for-profit items of community interest will be posted on a first come, first served basis.
