VFW dedicates Mumford Rural Cemetery Honor Roll

On Sunday, July 18, 2004 over 70 area residents attended the dedication service of the Honor Roll at the Mumford Community Building. The Mumford VFW Post 6591 hosted the event to dedicate the Honor Roll which consists of a list of names of veterans buried in the Mumford Rural Cemetery. The west wall of the Mumford Community Building is now the home of the new Honor Roll of veterans who served in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War, along with veterans who served during peacetime.

Post Vice-Commander Stanley Lyttle opened the ceremony followed by the Presentation of Colors by the Monroe County VFW Color Guard. Post Commander William Fisher introduced the guest speakers: Caledonia High School Class of 1939 graduate and Retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel Richard Kingsbury followed by Past State VFW Commander Anthony Ferrese. Post Commander Fisher then made the formal dedication of the Honor Roll followed by a prayer led by Post Chaplain Dr. William Andolora.

Debbie (Fisher) Pulvino led the gathering in singing the National Anthem while the Chili American Legion Firing Squad fired the traditional three volleys of rounds outside the community building followed by taps.

Post Commander Fisher closed the dedication by thanking everyone for attending. Refreshments and an informal social hour followed the ceremony.
