EAST SIDE, WEST SIDE All Around the Town

Hello everyone, let’s get started updating everyone on what’s been going on in the Town of Caledonia. The Highway Crew has put a huge dent in the roadwork that was on the books for 2007. Mark Schroeder, Mike Churchill, Jim Sawyer, Bill Lysko, Ron Beach III and Ivan Carson are doing an outstanding job on our highway work. In addition to the usual equipment upkeep and mowing work, here are some of the jobs completed thus far this year: cut shoulders on Neale Road; changed the crossover pipe on McEwen Road; worked on bush & trees on Cameron Road; patched numerous roads; painted plows; put shoulders on Brown Road, Cooney Road, & McGovern Road; stoned & oiled Lacey, Brown, Cooney, McGovern, Stones Lane & Cider Street; sprayed guard rails. The crew has also been supporting the Livingston County Highway, the Caledonia Village and some of the other Towns on some of their projects. As they always say, one hand washes the other. We have purchased a new mowing tractor as part of our continued equipment replacement strategy that the Board and I put into place. Superintendent Mark Schroeder has sent a letter to Assemblyman Dan Burling seeking $150K in grant money for work on McIntyre Road. This grant would permanently repair the culvert, backfill, pave and reinstall guardrails. This grant is still pending and we have no word as of yet. The Towns of Avon, Caledonia, Leicester, Mt. Morris and York have applied for a grant for road widening equipment to be shared between the Towns. This grant looks very promising for the Towns. I would also like to thank Barry Ganzhorn for all the work he does at the transfer station on Saturdays. Before I close with the Highway update, we are always looking for used oil for our Highway building furnace. LT Disposal has worked out a deal with Casella Corp. to acquire their proposed transfer station on River Rd at the Spezio site. The transfer station should be operational by the end of summer. It won’t be long and I will be working on the Town budget. Over the next couple of months I’ll be putting together the budget for 2008 to be presented to the Caledonia Town Board in October. Year-to-date we have no town-wide debt and the spending plan for 2007 continues to meet our target of maintaining sound financial practices while providing high quality services to the Town residents. The Livingston County Board of Supervisors is partnering with Noyes Hospital on a project to put a kidney dialysis unit at the old SNF building on Millennium Drive in Geneseo. We expect that the dialysis services will be available by year-end. The building repairs and updates at the Campus Building #1 in Mt. Morris are underway. For those who have not heard, the Barilla plant in Avon produced its first pasta on June 12th. For now that’s what’s going on at the County. Dan Pangrazio
