Reward offered in local convenience store clerk stabbing

On Tuesday, February 5, shortly after the late night shift change at Sunoco A-Plus convenience store in Caledonia, a 24-year-old male clerk was stabbed by an individual who entered the store and demanded money.

It was not clear what type of instrument was used in the stabbing. The clerk was trans-ported to Strong Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery and has since been released from the hospital.

The store manager said that customers had been expressing their concern over the incident in the days following.

The perpetrator concealed his face with a white cloth and demanded that the clerk turn over the money. He proceeded to walk around the counter toward him demanding, "I'm not kidding, give me all the money"

The clerk complied but apparently didn't act fast enough for the robber because he stabbed the clerk in the abdomen before running out the front door with" approximately $200.

A customer in the parking lot witnessed the suspect running off on foot.

Another store clerk, a female working in the office, witnessed the attack and assisted the victim until police and medical help arrived.

Livingston County Sheriff John York says the desperate and aggressive actions of the suspect and the fact that he made off with a small amount of money, leads him to assume that the robber may strike again.

The Sheriff said that while crimes of this nature are very rare in this county, they could be on the rise as the Rochester Police Department intensifies its crack down on street crime.

Video taken from the store surveillance cameras revealed the suspect was wearing a baseball cap over the white cloth around his face and a dark colored jacket with large white lettering across the back reading, "Aces High Texas Hold Em."

Police are following up on a number of leads resulting from the description of that jacket, said Major Ray Ellis of the Livingston County Sheriffs Department.

Three LCS investigators have been working on the case along with the Caledonia Police Department. Sergeant in Charge David Richardson says more police coverage in the Village of Caledonia could reduce the chance of crimes like this happening.

"The criminals know when we are on duty and when we are off. With more police coverage, we could stop in at these businesses; have more of a presence," Richardson said.

Ellis said small businesses should invest in a good digital surveillance system since clear photos are crucial to helping to identify the suspect and aids in solving the crime.

"The initial investment is far less than the risk that results when something like this hap-pens," Ellis commented.

The suspect is described as male with light complexion, slender build, approximately 5'8" to 5' 10" with dark hair. He was wearing baggy jeans, bandanna type cloth covering his face, a baseball cap and a dark colored jacket with white lettering reading "Aces High Texas Hold Em."
