We have a winner:

The Caledonia Association of Businesses, a newly formed organization of merchants and business owners in the downtown district, hosted a slogan contest, open to youth and adults. At the Tuesday, July 1 village board meeting, they announced the winning slogan: "Caledonia – Village by the Springs," submitted by Barry Ganzhorn, Sr.

Several members of the association attended the meeting to congratulate the authors of all the top slogans. Louise Wadsworth, director of the Livingston County Alliance for Business Growth, was also on hand to congratulate the slogan winners and to support the business association in their efforts to promote Caledonia. The top four slogan winners include Cal-Mum Central School students Rachel Mooney and Brett Waters and adult residents Matt Keenan and Richard Kaness. The association presented gift baskets that included Caledonia dollars to each contributor.

There were many excellent entries and a great turnout for the slogan contest, said Chris Ludwig, branch manager at Five Star Bank and spokesperson for the merchants.

Residents voted for their favorite slogan online at cal-mum.com and by paper ballot at local businesses. Members of the Caledonia Association of Businesses are hopeful that the village board will consider adopting Ganzhorn’s words as the official slogan for the village and use it in promotional materials for Caledonia.

Ganzhorn says he was sitting in the MacKay Park gazebo and went to the overlook to watch the creek waters and it came to him, "That’s what we are, a village by the springs."
