REGULAR MEETING
April 22, 2008

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Caledonia-Mumford Central School District was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Jay Jones in the boardroom at the district office.

Members present: Jay Jones, John Bickford, Barb Burns, Randy Grattan, Arnie Rychlicki, Steve Sickles and Sue Spencer.

Members absent: None.

Others present: David Dinolfo, Superintendent; Patrick Donegan, Business Manager/District Clerk; Deb Starr, Director of Special Education; James Wolinsky, Elementary Principal; Robert Molisani, Middle School Principal; Tom Woodruff, High School Principal; Lee Staley, Physical Education Curriculum Leader, students from the Government Class and district inhabitants.

Motion made by Grattan, seconded by Sickles, to approve the following consent agenda:

  1. Minutes: March 25, 2008
  2. General Fund Warrants #44 and #48
  3. School Lunch Fund Warrant #8
  4. Capital Fund Warrant #9
  5. District Treasurer’s Report - March
  6. Extraclass Treasurer’s Report - March
  7. CPSE/CSE Recommendations: 06191, 04508, 05347, 05333, 05980, 04335, 05445, 04593, 05510, 04079, 04787, 05623, 06031, 05152, 06088, 05959, 05477, 06171, 04255, 05534.
  8. Property Tax Report Card

Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Guests of the Board

Lee Staley presented on K-12 Physical Education. He went over the activities, goals and initiatives in the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. He also spoke on the Health curriculum and recent Wellness Day activities.

Superintendent’s Report

The Principals went over the NYS District Report Card for 2006-07. The District continues to be a district in good standing.

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Spencer to adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel at 8:04 p.m. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Spencer to return to regular session at 8:56 p.m. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Resignation for Purposes of Retirement

Motion was made by Rychlicki, seconded by Grattan, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, accept with regret and best wishes the resignation, for the purpose of retirement, of James Wolinsky, Elementary School Principal, effective April 30, 2009. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Appointment of Per Diem Substitute

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Sickles, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, appoint Judith Georger as a per diem substitute for the 2007-2008 school year. Ms. Georger holds NYS certification in Biology 7-12, Reading K-12, and Pre K-6. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Appointment of Building Mechanic

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Rychlicki, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, appoint John T. Pike II to the probationary civil service position as Building Maintenance Mechanic effective May 12, 2008 and ending on November 11, 2008. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Development of the Proposed 2008-2009 Annual School Budget

Mr. Dinolfo gave a brief update on the state budget. The Three Part Budget and NYS School Report Card Fiscal Accountability Supplement were discussed.

Policy Revision – 2nd Reading - Policy #6550 LEAVES OF ABSENCE

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Sickles, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, adopt Policy #6550 LEAVES OF ABSENCE effective April 22, 2008. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

Approval of Transportation Requests to Out-of-District Nonpublic Schools for 2008-2009

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Grattan, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the transportation requests to out-of-district nonpublic schools as presented for the 2008-2009 school year. Ayes: 7, Nays: 0, motion carried.

French Club and Spanish Club Out-of-Country Field Trip Request

There was a discussion on how to reduce the cost to students for these trips. Some ideas were reducing the number of chaperones and having chaperones pay a part of the cost.

Motion was made by Burns, seconded by Spencer to adjourn the meeting at 9:30 p.m.
