Winter fun snowtubing at Polarwave

A look back at Winter Recreation Day

The cold wind blows against your cheeks as you glide faster and faster down the hill! Snowtubing, a fun outdoor activity for the winter, brings out the child in all of us.

It was a long wait for the snow to arrive this winter, but when it did, dozens of Cal-Mum kids participated in an after school trip to Polarwave in Batavia for snowtubing. Caledonia Recreation sponsored the trip for Cal-Mum students in grades 2–8.

On President’s Day in February, Caledonia Recreation sponsored a trip to the bowling alley for the younger kids in kindergarten and first grades. For some of the little ones, just lifting the ball was a chore, still there were many spares and strikes to be proud of!

Caledonia Recreation hosts several activities for kids in the community throughout the year including the summer park programs, the Penny Carnival, summer field trips to the Rochester Red Wings and Rhinos games, Minnehans fun park in Lakeville, swimming lessons, a fall festival and breakfast with Santa.

Most of the people who work hard to offer this wide variety of events for kids are volunteers who want to see good wholesome activities available for kids in the community.

"Many thanks go out to Cal-Mum teachers, parent volunteers, and school administrators for their support in making the Polarwave trip possible and National Honor Society members Larry Riggi, Jessica Jones and Sara Spezzano for helping out at the bowling alley," said Janet Cappotelli, Caledonia Recreation volunteer.
