Virginia (Ely) Vellekoop

   Virginia (Ely) Vellekoop, age 87 years, of LeRoy died November 24, 2006 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born August 16, 1919 in Caledonia, NY to Emmett and Bertha Day. Mrs. Vellekoop attended the Geneseo Normal School and worked at Spenceport Central School. After her retirement she was the librarian at Lima Christian School. Mrs. Vellekoop volunteered at the Batavia VA, Lima Baptist Church, was a member of the Caledonia Eastern Star and enjoyed knitting. She is survived by her children, David (Brenda) Ely of Marietta, GA, Susan (Lewis) Schmidt of LeRoy, NY, Nancy (Denis) Berwanger of Silver Springs, Robert (Maryjane) Ely of Batavia, NY; step-son, Harry (Connie) Vellekoop Jr.; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her husbands Robert W. Ely and Harry Vellekoop predecease Virginia.

   Friends called Saturday, November 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia. Her funeral service was held Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Lima Baptist Church, 1574 Rochester Street, Lima. Interment at Mumford Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lima Baptist Church or Lima Christian School.
