Virginia Ward Elkins Virginia Ward Elkins, of Sandy Spring, MD died on November 18, 2008. Born in Rochester, N.Y., she was the daughter of Gertrude and Joseph Wile Ward, a former New York State Assemblyman from Caledonia, New York. Survivors include her husband, William S. Elkins of Sandy Spring, MD, a brother Joseph W. Ward Jr. of Caledonia, N.Y., a son William S. Elkins Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y., a son David W. Elkins of Dunwoody, GA., a daughter Linda E. Culbertson of Olney, MD. and a son Richard W. Elkins of Jasper, GA. She also leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Virginia spent most of her years in the Caledonia area, graduating from Caledonia HS in 1937, Cornell University in 1941 and Michigan State University in 1942. In conjunction with Wm. Hamilton & Sons of Caledonia, N.Y., Virginia and her husband were, for many years, proprietors of the "Hamilton Shop" on Main St. in Caledonia. She was a life time member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving on the session and as a Deacon. Virginia was also a member of the Caledonia Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #451. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 3080 Main Street, Caledonia, N.Y. There was a short reception in Fellowship Hall following the service.
