Elwyn I. "Sonny" Grimes

   Elwyn L "Sonny" Grimes died June 28, 1999. At his home on Ashmoor Drive, Avon after a long illness. Sonny was born September 10, 1941 in Lyndon, New York, the son of Roy L. and Donna Mae (Scutt) Grimes. Sonny worked for Alliant Food Service as a warehouse supervisor. He also had a long racing career. Some of the places he raced include: Holland, Angelica, LimeRock Speedway, and Perry Speedway. He started racing at age 16, and ultimately became head start for many race tracks including: LimeRock Speedway, Caledonia, Sullivan County Speedway, White Lake, NY, and Wyoming County Speedway. Sonny and his wife, Vera also enjoyed motorcycle riding.

   He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Verna (Woodruff) Grimes, Avon. Son: Brian Grimes and Connie MacMillan, Palm Bay, FL., Daughters and Son-in-law: Beth and John Barnes, Virginia Beach, VA, Brenda and Jeff Dangler, Hilton, Bridget Grimes and Todd Cummings, Lockport, and Becky and Jawayne Cantres, E. Bloomfield, and 9 Grandchildren.

   Friends called Wednesday, June 30, 7-9 P.M. and Thursday, July 1, 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at ALHART FUNERAL HOME, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia where a Funeral Service was held Friday at 2:00 P.M. Officiating the service was Reverend David Hotchkiss. Interment was at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, York, N.Y. Arrangements made by ALHART FUNERAL HOME, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia, NY 14423.
