Paul R. Catlin

   Paul R. Catlin age 78 years, of Winthrop/Caledonia died February 1, 2003 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. He was born April 30, 1924 in Rochester to Roland W. and Frances (Chapell) Catlin. A graduate of York Central School, Paul received certificates from Rochester Institute of Technology and Hobart Trade School in Troy, OH. During WWII he served as a Medic in the Army with the 78th Field Hospital Medical Corps, from 1943 to 1946, participating in the invasion of Normandy. Mr. Catlin worked for Rochester General Motors in Rochester, and in 1959 moved to the General Motors Plant in Massena, where he was a Die Welder until he retired in 1987. He was a past president of UAW Local 465 in Massena; Past Master of Brasher Lodge 541 F & AM in Brasher Falls; a member of St. Lawrence Central Board of Education for 15 years; a Trustee of the former United Church of Christ in Winthrop. Mr. Catlin was one of the 10 Charter Members of Seaway Community Federal Credit Union (now Sea-Com), was past president of the Board of Directors and presently on the Nominating Committee to Elect the Board of Directors. He was active with fundraising for the United Way and the Heart Fund. He enjoyed bowling and golf.

   He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy "Dot" of Winthrop, NY; son, Larry Catlin of Cairo, Egypt; daughter, Frances Catlin of Schenectady; two brothers, Martin Catlin of Hawaii and Marvin Caltin of Washington , D.C. several nieces and nephews. His sister, Shirlee Noaker predeceases him.

   Friends called 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, February 5 at the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop, where his Funeral Service was held Thursday, February 6 at 1 PM. Interment took place at Winthrop Cemetery. Memorials may be to the American Heart Association.
