Margaret Eleanor Nelson

   Margaret Eleanor Nelson, age 62 years, of Caledonia joined her husband, Melvin Franklin Nelson on March 17, 2004. She was born March 23, 1941 in Rochester to John Richard and Eleanor (Jackson) Majors. Margaret worked for Chloride Networks in Caledonia; Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and was currently employed by Sabin Metal Corporation as a security guard. In 1978, she became the first and only woman of color to join forces with the Caledonia Fire Department and was a volunteer ambulance attendant for over 12 years. She also volunteered in the community on various projects throughout the years. Margaret was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Mumford. She was very talented with handcrafts, especially crocheting, needlepoint and cross-stitch, but her passion was sewing and quilting. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Joseph Davis of Rochester, Dora Williams; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Nelson, Franklin Nelson all of Caledonia; six grandchildren, several God-children; sisters-in-law, Edna and Karen Majors; stepmother, Lora Majors; several nieces and nephews.

   Friends called Saturday, March 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia. Her Funeral Service was held Monday, March 22 at 11 AM at the Second Baptist Church, Mumford. Interment was held at the Mumford Rural Cemetery.
