John Dunn Former Interim Superintendent at Caledonia-Mumford Central School John Dunn passed away on June 28, 2001. He was 71 years old. Mr. Dunn served the Caledonia-Mumford Central School District as interim superintendent from 1995 to late 1996. During that time, he successfully launched an aggressive capital building campaign that resulted in construction of the new high school building, several new classrooms at the elementary school, formation of a 6-8 middle school and an on-campus location for district and special education offices. Described by many in the district as the man who always wore a smile and spread his contagious laughter, it was with a great deal of regret that the school community said good-bye to Mr. Dunn at the conclusion of his interim term. He will fondly be remembered here at Caledonia-Mumford as the man who brought peace to a school district then in turmoil, and returned hope to the faculty, staff, students and community with this one sentence that continues at CMCS today, "Proud of our past, excited about our future." Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife Suzanne "Suz"; children Deborah (John) Schmidt of Mt. Morris; Mark (Cynthia) Dunn of New Hartford, N.Y.; Christine (William) Fortune of Avon; Thomas (Elizabeth) Dunn of Honeoye Falls; Christopher (Lisa) Dunn of Tampa, FL; Olinda (Warren) Bailey of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew, Allison, Lauren, Lainey, Vanessa, Brennan, Caitlin, Jeffery, Jonathan, Savannah and Andrew; and brother Robert P. Dunn of Rochester. Mr. Dunn was a graduate of Potsdam Teachers College and received his MS in education from SUNY Brockport. He began his teaching career in 1958 and later became Superintendent of Schools in Springfield, N.Y. in 1976. From 1977 until his retirement in 1986 he led the Mt. Morris Central School District. Upon retirement he lent his expertise to several school districts serving as interim superintendent. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Dunn recognized the great importance of family and enjoyed the activities of his children and grandchildren with great pleasure. He regarded his large extended family his greatest achievement. Family and friends called at the John W. Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris on Sunday, July 1 and a memorial service was held at the United Church of Mt. Morris on July 2. Memorials may be made in Mr. Dunn’s memory to the Livingston County Hospice Fund, 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris, N.Y. 14510.
