John L. "Jack" Moran John Lawrence Moran died after a long illness on September 12, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann: daughter and sons-in-law Kelly and Jay Jones, Ellen and Thomas Dwyer; sons and daughters in-law, Michael and Andrea Moran, Mark and Debbie Moran; grandchildren Chris, Lindsay, and Jayme Jones, Brendan and Molly Dwyer, Michael Patrick Moran, Timmy and Erin Moran; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marion Moran, Robert and Julie Moran; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Anne and Richard Lanpher, Martha and Jack Graham; and dear friend Gladys Ousley; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter Colleen. Jack was the third of five children born to Ellen and Thomas Moran of Avon. He worked the family farm until he took over Empire Livestock Management Cooperative in Caledonia. He was an imposing and familiar figure not only in the ring at livestock auctions but as he visited the farms in the surrounding area. He served many years as race secretary at the Caledonia Fair Association and as a judge at 4H competitions. He annually held a Fat Stock Show at Empire Stock Yards that benefited countless numbers of 4H participants. Jack also became well known as a livestock judge at New York State Fair. Friends called Tuesday at the Alhart Funeral Home. Interment followed the service held Wednesday at St. Columba Church.
