Harvey Harold Cohen
Harvey owned and operated Community Outfitters in Caledonia with his father, Phil, for forty years. He was a lieutenant in the Air Force during World War II. During his service he was the instructor of the navigator and bombardier of the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb. Harvey was mayor of the Village of Caledonia. During his eight years as mayor he was instrumental in establishing Washburn Park, downtown parking, and shopping areas within the village. Harvey was an accomplished pilot. He owned several airplanes with his good friend, John Angelini. He is remembered for flying over the village and dropping hundreds of "Pennysaver Dollars" for the children to retrieve and spend during the "Sidewalk Sales Days" each summer. Harvey was an avid golfer for many years. He once shot a course record of 29 on the front nine at the LeRoy Country Club. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friend Frank Antinore. Harvey was an enthusiastic Ham radio operator for many years with the call sign KB2LB. Harvey always had a smile and a word of wisdom or wit for all. A special thanks to David, his son, who provided care and comfort for his dad the last few years. No prior calling hours. Services and interment at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Alhart Funeral Home.
