George G. Smith George G. Smith, age 77 years, of Toms River, NJ passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Batavia, NY; he resided in Caledonia, NY, and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1945. He also resided in Springfield, VA, and Manalapan before moving to Greenbriar Woodlands in 1992. Mr. Smith was a salesman for the Eastman Kodak Company in New York City for 19 years, retiring in 1987. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a communicant of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Toms River. Mr. Smith was active coaching youth football, basketball and Little League in Springfield, VA and Manalapan Township. During his term as president, the Manalapan High School Booster Club provided the opportunity for Manalapan to hold night football and soccer games by financing the first lights on a Freehold regional football field. An avid golfer, Mr. Smith served as president of the Greenbriar Woodlands Golf Association and later as major tournament chairman. He was a member and past quartermaster of Greenbriar Woodlands VFW Post 8885. Surviving are his loving, beloved wife, Marilyn Scott Smith; his sons and daughters-in-law; Michael and Tassea Smith of San Antonia, TX, and Patrick and Sheila Smith of Wake Forrest, NC; daughter and son-in-law; Stephanie and Dr. Richard Gargiulo of Medford; nine grandchildren; Steven, Richard and Lisa Gargiulo, Anya and George Shaw, Graeson Smith, and Hannah, Melissa and Shawna Smith. Friends called from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Tuesday at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. A funeral service was held Wednesday at the funeral home at 8:15 am. A Mass of a Christina Burial followed at 9:15 am at St. Luke's Church. Interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ.
