Father Emmett J. Halloran
Father Emmett J. Halloran, age 78 years, a Diocese of
Rochester priest for 53 years, died March 21, 2004. Father Halloran, a
Rochester native, attended St. Andrew’s and St. Bernard’s seminaries
in Rochester and was ordained June 3, 1950 by Bishop James Kearney. He
served as assistant pastor at St. Patrick’s Parish in Seneca Falls
until 1951, when he was appointed assistant pastor of St. Michael’s
Parish in Newark until 1956. In July of 1956 he began teaching history
and English at St. Andrew’s Seminary. In 1967, he became rector of
King’s Preparatory Seminary until the school closed in 1970.
Father Halloran then was appointed pastor of St. Columba’s
Parish in Caledonia and St. Patrick’s Parish in Mumford, where he
served from 1970 - 1978. Next he was appointed pastor of St. Charles
Borromeo Parish in Greece. In 1988, Father Halloran became pastor of St.
Patrick’s Parish in Macedon until his retirement in June of 1996.
After retiring, Father Halloran lived at St. Mary’s Parish in
Canandaigua. Father Halloran enjoyed listening to classical music, an
avid opera fan and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Father Halloran is survived by a brother, Michael Halloran
of Bloomfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends called at St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua from
2-5 PM March 25. Bishop Matthew Clark presided at his funeral Mass at 10
AM on March 26 at St. Mary’s. Interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery in
Penn Yan, NY. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Parish, 95 North Main
