Albert E. Baker
January 01, 1938 - June 04, 2006

Albert E. Baker, age 68 years, of Eagan, MN and originally from Mumford, NY died June 04, 2006.

Happiness is a journey not a destination; it was Al’s mission to make sure that the journey was meaningful & enjoyable for everyone. Al was a husband, a father, a grandfather & a friend to all of us that knew him. On Sunday, June 4, 2006 Al lost his battle with cancer at home surrounded by family and friends. If you could measure ones’ wealth by the number of friends ones has, Al would have been an extremely wealthy man. Al was very active in community functions that served Bloomington, Burnsville & Eagan. He took great pride in volunteering time, space or money for supporting youth activities in these communities.

Al was best known for his success as a restaurateur. Al started out in the restaurant business as a general manger for his father-in-law, at Howard Wong’s in Bloomington, where he refined his skills under the watchful eyes of Howard and Beulah Wong. In 1981 Al decided to branch off on his own and opened the doors of the Ground Round in Burnsville. The opportunity came in 1985 to purchase some land and a building at the intersection of 35E and Yankee Doodle Road, and Al Baker’s was started.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Jay C. Baker and is survived by his loving and caring wife of 44 years, Donna; mother, Beatrice; children, Bonnie Smith, Jean (John) McLaughlin, Christopher Baker, and Kimberly (Patrick) Ahern; & grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Taylor, Alexandra, Madalyn, Holden, Beatrice and Joseph.
