Sisters participate in NY City walk to support cancer cure

Fourteen-year old Deanna and 11-year old Samantha Horr love spending time with their uncle Scott Horr. Deanna says they enjoy going out for ice cream and playing games together. Fortunately, Horr is able to enjoy time with his nieces again after undergoing surgery to remove cancerous tumors in his gastro-intestinal tract last year.

On October 19, Deanna, Samantha, their grandmother, and an aunt joined Horr in New York City for the 8th Annual GIST Cancer Walk for a Cure. GIST is an acronym for gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a cancer that has no cure and affects thousands of people annually in this country. The GIST walk raises money to fund research that has helped improve the quality of life for people living with the disease.

Deanna and Samantha, both students at Caledonia-Mumford Central School, say they were impressed by the big city and the large crowds of people participating in the walk. They plan to participate in the GIST walk again next year.
