Spragge awarded Fire Chiefs Scholarship
New Truck in Service

It is with sincere pleasure that the Mumford Fire Department announces that Alex Spragge has been awarded a scholarship from the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. This Scholarship is named in memory of Ward and Janice Bohner for their many years of dedicated service to the association. The scholarship will enable Alex to continue his studies in Fire Protection Technology at Monroe Community College. Congratulations! Alex on behalf of all of us in the Mumford Fire Department and all the members and officers of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. In addition to this announcement, Alex will be officially recognized at the 99th annual conference of the association on June 9th in Syracuse. Good Luck Alex as you continue your studies in the fire protection field.

In April the Mumford Fire Department placed into service an Off Road Fire and Rescue vehicle replacing a previous vehicle that had been in service for 29 years.

The truck, 4716, is a Diesel powered 2005 four-wheel drive Ford Pickup. This vehicle was primarily produced for off road use. The truck carries a Skid Mounted Pump Unit consisting of a 200 gallon water tank, booster hose reel, 100 feet of fire hose and a 500 gallon per minute pump with a 24 H.P. engine. Also carried on this vehicle are rescue ropes, harnesses, Stokes Basket and other equipment that will be utilized for rescue emergencies.

This type of truck is essential for reaching fires in remote areas where the larger and heavier fire trucks can't go. It is especially important for rescue in remote places. This will allow us to transport injured people from hard to reach areas to a waiting ambulance. Feel free to stop on down to the Mumford Fire Department and check out our new 4716.
