MFD erects museum to showcase antique equipment The new Mumford Fire Hall is nearly complete and beautifully compliments the historic original Mumford Community Building at the four corners in Mumford. More importantly, the new fire hall is very functional for the work of the department. You may have noticed another bit of new construction just north of the new fire hall. Members of the Mumford Fire Department are erecting a 24 ft. by 35 ft. museum to house the department’s memorabilia and antique fire equipment. "The purpose of the museum is to educate young people and the community to the aspects of firefighting – past and present. It is being built by money raised through fundraising and all of the work is being donated by the members themselves," said Stan Latko, a Mumford Firefighter and Commissioner. The firefighters plan to close the building in over the next several days and then resume construction next spring. They plan to have the museum completed and open for viewing by October 2007 for fire prevention month. The total cost of the completed museum, to be raised through fundraising, is about $8,000.
