Livingston County American Legion
recognizes two for service

NUNDA—In front of about 25 observers attending the Livingston County American Legion meeting at the Seager-Werner American Legion Post in Nunda on March 14, special recognition was given to Livingston County Veterans Service Officer Frank Hollister and Caledonia Legion member Jerrie Davis.

Although Hollister is a member of The American Legion post in Warsaw and has been the director of the Wyoming County Veterans Service Agency since 1998, he has also been the director for Livingston County’s Veterans Service Agency at the Mt. Morris campus for the past two years.

As a veterans service officer, Hollister is responsible for helping veterans obtain benefits. Many veterans are unsure of their eligibility and how to go about acquiring benefits. Hollister helps to service about eight veterans per hour in Livingston County.

Livingston County Commander Harvey Teed of Springwater said that Hollister goes above and beyond his call of duty to veterans. Teed also mentioned that Hollister takes the initiative to attend and address the board at all county Legion meetings. "We’ve never had that happen before," Teed continued. "You could write a book about him."

Hollister’s service career began in 1969 when he served with the Army’s Company C, 6th Battalion, 9th Infantry Division, 171 Airborne Brigade. He was stationed in Alaska and served for two years. He spent the following 12 years in the National Guard, Company C out of Batavia. He has been a Legion member for 33 years.

Hollister wasn’t expecting a recognition that evening. "It was a surprise," he said.

Jerrie Davis, a Caledonia Legion member, was also recognized on the 14th. He was awarded the Livingston County Legionnaire of the Year award. Davis has been a Legionnaire for more than 30 years and has held positions such as county Legion commander and commander of the VFW, and has been involved with other community organizations.

Davis has also been awarded Legionnaire of the Year for the 7th District, which encompasses eight counties. His name will go to the Department (State) of New York where he will compete with nine other District Legionnaire awardees for the state award.

Jerrie "Jake" Davis of Caledonia, a past-commander of the Livingston County American Legion organization, was presented a plaque at the county Legion’s March 14 meeting in recognition of being named the 2007 Livingston County Legionnaire of the Year.
