Hometown Holidays

Santa spends the day at Caledonia’s Hometown Holidays

Santa arrived in Caledonia bright and early Saturday morning for a pancake breakfast with children at First Presbyterian Church. Later, Santa rode in to town and the annual Hometown Holidays parade in a horse-drawn wagon driven by David Ayers and his team of horses. Aileen Ayers once again organized the events of Hometown Holidays.

The streets were bustling with families and visitors out to enjoy the lighting of the Christmas tree on Main Street in front of the fire hall, shopping at the downtown merchants and the Hometown Holidays sale at the fire hall. Big Springs Museum welcomed many visitors and served a hot lunch to take the chill off.

There was lots of music as Cal-Mum’s High School Band played several holiday favorites and Kelley’s Heroes marched in the parade to the fire hall where they officially ushered in the holiday spirit by performing all the favorite songs of the season. There were many vocalists also as the girl scouts caroled throughout the streets at night. A Celtic concert on Friday night at First Presbyterian Church by Mitzie Collins and friends started off the holiday cheer.

Thank goodness that the Knights of Columbus again offered a spaghetti supper on Saturday evening for hungry Hometown Holiday go-ers.
