Clinical Hypnotherapist coming to West Main Street

Clinical Hypnotherapist Michelina Harding, Ph.D, CH, CCBE believes it only takes a little desire to make a big change. Harding, founder and owner of the Awareness Center located in Scottsdale, Arizona, is returning to her roots in Livingston County and bringing with her, a new alternative to physical, emotional, spiritual and mental wellness. Soon she will launch a second location of the Awareness Center, based out of her Caledonia home, to offer these same holistic services to clients in this area. Having several relatives from the community, Harding says Caledonia and other small communities like it; offer a sense of being attached and belonging, both important components of wellness.

Born in Italy and arriving in the United States as a young girl with limited English speaking skills, Harding struggled with learning but knew education was important to her success in this new world. With help from many people in her life, Harding overcame her language struggles and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Tacoma, Washington and a master’s degree from the Integrating Medical Center of Virginia. She then returned to Arezzo, Italy where she completed her doctorate degree in brief strategic psycho therapy.

Harding completed training as a master clinical hypnotherapist in 1995 at the National Guild of Hypnotherapy. She says hypnosis is nothing like you’ve seen in the movies and describes it as the state in which the part of your brain that criticizes you goes to sleep while the other remaining subconscious part of the brain becomes more alert while the physical body totally relaxes. There is no discomfort involved and the person being hypnotized is in control at all times.

Calling herself a life coach, Harding says she desires to teach people how to heal themselves on all levels using the light that shines within them. Clients seek non-traditional holistic methods including hypnosis to help them deal with a variety of issues including weight loss, tobacco cessation, stress reduction, anxiety, phobias, test anxiety, self esteem and addiction therapy. She is also a natural childbirth educator, incorporating hypnosis of the mother to achieve a natural, relaxed childbirth, which she calls birthnosis.

"The holistic approach to self-awareness is a great tool as an alternative to and in conjunction with modern medicine. The alternatives can teach a person how to listen and que into their body’s needs and assist the body’s natural healing process," Harding explained.

The Awareness Center offers classes and private sessions in the ancient Tibetan art of Reiki natural healing. Harding is a master instructor and says Reiki is a natural and safe way of relieving stress and tension, balancing the mind, body and emotions, helps clients find inner peace and harmony and promotes the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki treatments are offered to clients of all ages, children and adults.
