Village DPW closes in a $55 thousand street project Residents on Hambro Park in the Village of Caledonia will have a new street, smoother and properly drained, by the time this story is published. The Village of Caledonia DPW department put the finishing touches on the $55 thousand project earlier this week. "The water would sit in the middle of the street, it was bumpy and rough and had been in bad shape for the past ten years since I’ve lived here," said Mike Lindsey, a resident of the street who was pleased to see it being redone. No wonder, Water and Street Supervisor Chris Buckley said the street was still wearing its original coat, possibly dating back to the 1940’s. His crew started the Hambro Park street renovation project about a month ago. The project included milling out the old pavement, installing drain lines, catch basins and concrete gutters. Alco Paving of Rochester did the rough and final grading of the street and paving was completed earlier this week. Buckley said things ran relatively smooth until the crew ran into a lot of clay that had to be dugout and replaced with a load of stone. Hambro Park was closed earlier this month in preparation for the final grading and paving last week. Though residents were forced to park off of the street while the project was being completed, it’s likely they didn’t mind because they knew it would be worth it to have a new street. Four-year old Dylan sure didn’t mind the daily work on the street over the past month or so. Young Dylan brought out his toy excavator, backhoe and dump truck and worked alongside the DPW crew on the project. His father said he’d been watching the street project each and every day for the past month. The Hambro Park project was paid for using CHIPS funding, an acronym for Consolidated Highway Improvement Program, which is an allotment of funding from the New York State Department of Transportation given to municipalities each year. The amount that each municipality receives is calculated using the total number of highway miles the local DPW maintains. Buckley said his department maintains about 10 lane miles. Buckley said Hambro Park reopened early last week. His department would finish the project by repairing the apron portion of each driveway.
