Our history and what we do |

| Genesee Valley Emergency Medical Services, Inc.
(GVEMS) is a not-for-profit 501 c-3 corporation and we are registered
with the NYS Charities Bureau. GVEMS was adapted from Genesee Valley
Advanced Life Support, Inc. (GVALS) also known as Medic-77. This was
done in order to make GVEMS an umbrella corporation under which The
Caledonia Ambulance and Medic-77 could both share resources and
benefits. GVALS Medic-77 was jointly created several years ago by the Caledonia and York Fire Departments in an effort to help provide timely Advanced Life Support (ALS) to their respective districts. November 1, 2002 marked the transition point where the Caledonia Fire Department (CFD), who had administered the Caledonia Ambulance Service for 60 years, transferred the ambulance's assets as well as local responsibility for EMS coverage in the Cal- Mum Fire Districts to the volunteer membership of GVEMS. Today GVEMS emergency medical response team is made up of a core of skilled concerned local, state certified volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) and drivers trained in emergency vehicle operation and CPR and other vital non-emergency support staff. Daytime coverage over the last ten years has become a national concern
for rural areas. Through a contract staffing arrangement GVEMS makes
available a paid Advanced Life Support Technician from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesdays through Fridays. The remainder of the time is totally covered
by our volunteers.
