New owners of Genesee Country Inn Deborah and Richard Stankevich looked at several inns on the New England real estate market, but when they arrived in Mumford, NY to look at Genesee Country Inn, they knew their search was over. The couple fell in love with the circa 1833 fieldstone bed and breakfast and became its new owners in June 2006, moving here from Arkansas. The Inn is located at 933 George Street and is surrounded by the natural beauty of water and lush green woods and colorful flowers. A working mill from 1833 until 1982, Genesee Country Inn features nine beautifully and historically decorated guest rooms and a common living and dining room. Each room at the inn invites its guests to relax in the beauty of a hand-stenciled Victorian décor of period antique and reproduction furniture. Deborah’s warm smile invites you inside as the aroma of fresh baked cookies and tea beckons guests to the living room to "sit a spell." A relatively new addition, the inn offers their guests the solitude of a quiet sunroom overlooking the waters of Spring Creek and amidst the peaceful backdrop of the flowing fountain off the back deck. The stream is fully stocked with brown trout for the fisherman’s delight. Guests also enjoy the inn’s convenient wireless Internet connection and guest computer station. Genesee Country Inn is open year round and is close to Genesee Country Village and Museum, popular restaurants of the Genesee Valley, the New York State Fish Hatchery in Caledonia (oldest hatchery in the Western Hemisphere) and numerous attractions in the nearby city of Rochester, NY. Innkeepers Deborah and Richard grew up in the Buffalo area and attended college in the region. After first becoming best friends, the couple married and raised three sons. Thirty-five years later, Deborah says they are still best friends and very much enjoy spending time with each other. They also wanted to return to their family members still living in the Buffalo-Rochester area. Deborah, an English teacher certified in four different states and a Freshman College Composition professor, left her administrative post in Arkansas as a consultant for the National Writing Project, where she was responsible for ensuring that approximately 12,000 students were proficient in reading and writing. A lover of teaching and wanting to keep her connection to the classroom, she provided teacher training programs in the area of literacy. Deborah is also a published writer with two new short stories coming out next month. She plans to write a new book, Tales from the Inn, in the near future based on her innkeeper experiences at Genesee Country Inn. Deborah and Richard Stankevich invite you to be their guests and stay in the quiet elegance of Genesee Country Inn. Whether you are a business traveler, in town for a family visit or just want to treat yourself to an evening of quiet comfort, the Genesee Country Inn has a room waiting for you.
