Gazebo puts finishing touches on MacKay Nature Trail

Just when you think there is nothing that could make the MacKay Nature Trail on Spring Street in Caledonia any more beautiful than it already is, someone comes forward and adds something new.

In early May, a beautiful gazebo was delivered and placed at the entrance of the trail, compliments of Neil and Ellen Alhart of Caledonia. Alhart and Barry Ganzhorn, Sr., also of Caledonia, are the two men who spent countless hours in the woods clearing brush and making pathways during the early days of the MacKay Nature Trail’s creation.

"Each year we try to give something back to the community. This year we thought we’d give the gazebo," Alhart said, adding that a table and bench are coming soon so people can sit down and enjoy the beauty of the park.

The MacKay Nature Trail and Preserve is open to the public. There is a handicapped accessible overlook to the preserve, also on Spring Street, dedicated to NYS DEC Investigator Richard Thomas of Caledonia.

Neil Alhart of Caledonia and his dog, Jack, are the first to enjoy the gazebo at the MacKay Nature Trail. Alhart and wife, Ellen, donated the gazebo.
