Essays of 10 Livingston County youngsters win at local level
4 place in WNY competition

   Over 270 students in grades 5–9 from schools throughout Livingston County entered essays in the Livingston County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association Fire Prevention Essay Contest. The theme for this year’s essay was "Practice your Escape Plan," and the importance of having the entire family practice safe escape plans. The student authors of the ten winning essays received $50 to $100 savings bonds and a certificate.

Winners are:

Division I Grades 5-6

  • 1st place – Julia Mason, 5th grade EB Hyde Elementary School Dansville
  • 2nd place – Breden Gibson, 6th grade Dansville Middle School
  • 3rd place – Jacoby Clemons, 6th grade Cal-Mum Middle School
  • Honorable Mention – Haley Moran, 6th grade St. Agnes School in Avon; Margorie Didas, 5th grade Holy Family School Dansville.

Division II Grades 7-9

  • 1st place – Clarissa Swain, 8th grade Dansville Middle School
  • 2nd place – Logan Thompson, 8th grade Keshequa Central School
  • 3rd place – Kristin Orton, 8th grade Keshequa Central School
  • Honorable Mention – Zac Toss, 8th grade Keshequa Central School; Elizabeth Bondi, 8th grade Dansville Middle School.

   All of the winning essays were forwarded to the Western New York State Volunteer Fireman’s Association where four Livingston County Students placed in the top categories. They are Julie Mason, 1st place; Haley Moran, 2nd place; Kristin Orton, 3rd place and Elizabeth Bondi Best in County. Their essays now advance to the state level Volunteer Firefighter’s Association.
