Cub Scouts Pack In the Fun

The Cub Scouts in Caledonia-Mumford have kept busy in 2006 with a number of activities. One of the highlights was the annual Pinewood Derby, held in January at the Mumford Community Building. Russ Barber of the Caledonia Garage again served as starter, overseeing the race among dozens of cars designed and built by the Cubs. In the speed contest, winners were: Matt Condame in first place; Hunter Palmer in second place; Chuck Sarat in third place. The Cubs also voted for the best car design, with first place going to Daniel McCabe, second place to Bill Hart, and third place to Tyler Davis.

Showcasing another kind of design skill, the boys then made decorated cakes for the annual cake competition in February. Guest judges included elementary school principal Jim Wolinsky. Every boy went home with a prize in the Olympic-themed competition—and, better yet, they all got the chance to sample the cakes after judging!

On April 28th, the boys received the recognitions they’ve earned this year during the Blue and Gold awards program. While this ceremoniously marks the end of the year’s activities, the Cubs will actually continue throughout the summer with den and pack activities, including day and overnight camps.
