Stone Church feeds the masses on Election Day

There are some church and community sponsored events in Cal-Mum that simply become tradition with the locals. They are hugely popular and are well attended no matter what the weather or whatever else may be going on at the same time.

Such is the case with Stone Church’s Election Day Chicken and Biscuit Lunch/Dinner. By 6:15 pm on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, church volunteers estimated that they had served over 200 sit down dinners and over 150 take out dinners!

Diners of all ages came to Stone Church for the delicious home-cooked meal. Some were less than a year old, far too young to vote but old enough to join in a family tradition.

Thankfully there were numerous church workers volunteering their time and energy and Boy Scout Troop 4027 also helped for the afternoon and evening.

Yes, it seems Cal-Mum loves its church and community suppers. Let’s see, coming up is Cal-Mum Recreation Breakfast with Santa, the Big Springs Museum Hometown Holidays Luncheon, the Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Supper, and before you know it it’s time for the American Legion Chicken BBQ, the Mumford Fire Department Chicken BBQ, the Mumford Presbyterian Church Chicken BBQ, the White First Presbyterian Church’s turkey dinner, the Cal-Mum Lions Club St. Patrick’s Day Boiled dinner and many, many more local church and community organization suppers where hungry folks will be line up!

Volunteers are organized for Stone Church’s Election Day Chicken and Biscuit dinner. The first stop was in the sanctuary for a dinner ticket. Here Karen and Lou Root and Alyssa McCollister, daughter of Pastor Dan McCollister, greet the hungry crowd.

A very ambitious and equally organized kitchen help, turn out dozens of dinners to hungry customers. Pastor Dan rolls up his sleeves to help out with this very busy church fundraiser.
