United Way donates
to Eagle Scout
Patrick Callanan, a junior at Caledonia-Mumford High School and scout with Troop 4027, is designing and constructing a dock at one of the ponds at Genesee Country Village Nature Center. The project seems to be a natural one for Callanan who has spent the last eight summers at the nature center attending their camps that included pond exploration. He believes the dock will enhance the young campers’ experience. "Boy Scouting was something near and dear to George’s heart. We wanted to do something with the memorial donations that he would have really wanted," Rumfola commented. Rumfola visited Callanan at Cal-Mum School to present him with the donation. His mother, Kathy Callanan, a science teacher at Cal-Mum and High School Principal Robert Molisani, were present, as well. Callanan is a member of the varsity boys’ soccer and track teams, competes with Brainstormers and Tech Wars and performs in the high school musical productions. He is undertaking the Project Lead the Way engineering course sequence in high school that will earn him college credit at Rochester Institute of Technology. Traber is credited for having a leadership role in the development of Livingston County United Way. In fact, Rumfola once said Traber "is the United Way," adding that he was one of the most passionate community volunteers she’d ever known. In addition to his countless leadership roles in Livingston County, Traber was devoted to Boy Scouting. He was presented with the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to young people within his local council.
