7TH GRADE HOOPS WINS HOLIDAY
CLASSIC TOURNAMENT
The Cal-Mum 7th grade boys travel basketball team
participated in the CYP Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament
held at St. John Fisher College over the holiday break.
The team went 4-0 to win their respective 7th grade
division. The Cal-Mum boys were matched up with Webster,
Honeoye Halls Lima, and Wayne in their respective bracket.
In game one, Cal-Mum was matched up with the Wayne Eagles and
came out on top 44-40. Cal-Mum led throughout the entire
game by as many as 10 points until a late charge by Wayne made
the final score close. Cal-Mum was led by Steve Gaffney
with 22 points including 3 three-pointers, and Madison Suhr with
12 points. Justin Wade chipped in with 4 points, while
Kyle Kline, Alex Hall and Matt Hayes each had 2 points.
In game two, Cal-Mum was matched up with Honeoye Falls Lima
and came out on top 48-31. Cal-Mum jumped out to a quick
17-2 lead after the first 3 minutes and never looked back.
Leading the charge for Cal-Mum were Steve Gaffney with 15 points
including 1 three-pointer, Madison Suhr with 12 points, Kyle
Kline with 8 points and Brady Sass with 6 points including 2
three-pointers. Justin Wade added 3 points and Alex Hall
and Matt Hayes each contributed with 2 points.
In game three, Cal-Mum was matched up with Webster/North
Coast and came away with a convincing 43-18 victory. A
21-4 second quarter run would put the game away early for
Cal-Mum and send them to the championship game. Cal-Mum
was led by Steve Gaffney with 13 points including 3
three-pointers, Madison Suhr with 8 points, Ian Hall with 7
points and Kyle Kline with 5 points. Alex Coleman chipped
in with 4 points, and Brady Sass and Justin Wade contributed
with 3 points each.
In the championship game, Cal-Mum was matched up again with
Webster/North Coast based on the round robin format used for the
tournament. This game however would not be as easy for the
Cal-Mum boys as Webster came out firing. Webster led by as
many as 14 points midway through the second quarter until a late
Cal-Mum charge would cut the lead to 8 points at halftime.
The third quarter would see Cal-Mum outscore Webster 12-9 to cut
the lead to 5 points after three quarters. In the fourth
quarter, Cal-Mum’s full court press proved too much for
Webster as the Raiders would outscore Webster 21-15 in the final
quarter to claim the championship with a close and hard fought
54-53 victory. Madison Suhr led Cal-Mum in scoring with 21
points, followed by Kyle Kline with 14 points, Steve Gaffney
with 9 points, Ian Hall with 6 points, and Alex Coleman with 4
points. At the conclusion of the tournament, each of the
Cal-Mum boys was presented with a trophy.
This tournament concluded a series of 4 tournaments totaling

respectable 8-8 in these games playing against teams from
