The Cal-Mum 5th Grade boys travel basketball team participated in the St. John’s Fisher Holiday Classic over the Christmas break. The Red Raiders played four games over the week and ended up with a record of 2-2. In the first game, Cal-Mum played HFL and lost a close game 25-24 in overtime. The Red Raiders lead in overtime until HFL hit a jump shot with 9 seconds left to take the one point lead. Kyle Preston attempted a last second shot before the buzzer sounded but it came up short. The Red Raiders were lead by Preston with 7 points and 3 steals and Will Van Auken added 6 points along with 6 rebounds. Jacob McEwen added 4 points, Marty Callan added 3 points and Alex Polo chipped in 2 points. In the second game, Cal-Mum was matched up with the host team CYP Panthers#1. Cal-Mum came up short in this one and fell 31-17. Van Auken led cal-Mum with 8 points and 6 rebounds and Preston chipped in 7 points and 5 steals. McEwen finished with 2 points.. Nick Kline and Josh Neff played hard in the lost. In the third game the Red Raiders took on the CYP Panthers#2. The Red Raiders won a close game 30-28. Preston lead Cal-Mum with 9 points and 2 steals and Van Auken chipped in with 6 points and 7 rebounds, Kyle Pullyblank chipped in 2 points along with 5 rebounds. Ryan Bulter and Nick Kline played outstanding defense in the win. In the final game of the Holiday Classic Cal-Mum faced East Rochester. The Red Raiders jumped out fast and lead at the half 17-4 and they went on to win 33-18. Van Auken lead Cal-Mum with 18 points and 8 rebounds and Pullyblank chipped in 6 points along with 4 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was Kline with 2 points, McEwen with 2 points, Neff with 3 points, Preston and Callan added 1 point each. Wyatt Phillips and Ryan Bulter both played an outstanding game in the win. Cal-Mum is 6-3 overall for the season.
